REMEMBER: The ADD SOY Act is not dead! 🗣️ 🙌

As a reminder, back in December, we had a historic opportunity to include ADD SOY as an amendment to the Whole Milk Bill, with a strong chance that the bill would pass.
Our amendment wasn’t popular with the Rules Committee who decides which amendments will or will not make it to the floor for a vote, and the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act, sans our amendment, passed the House floor, and it’s now in the hands of the Senate.

So, what does this mean for the ADD SOY Act moving forward?
🥛 The Act is very much alive and still has strong bipartisan support from very heavy hitters in the House and Senate.
🥛 We still need your letters to urge your Representatives and Senators to co-sponsor the Act. The more support it has from lawmakers and the more enthusiasm lawmakers from constituents like you – the greater chance we have of finally bringing the ADD SOY Act to a vote this year.
🥛 Public support for the Act is building again and we need your help to make this dream a reality.

‼️ THIS JUST IN: You will be seeing LESS DAIRY in the WIC Program, the supplemental nutrition program for women, infants and children that benefits 6.3 million people monthly 🎉

Last year, we asked you to submit your comments to the USDA to urge them to make healthier, safer food options available to participants and they heard us loud and clear!

🥛 They reduced the total amount of dairy from 4-6 gallons per month to only 3-4.
🥛 Cheese used to be its own category for breastfeeding mothers, and that is now GONE to “reduce saturated fat in this food package and provide more balance among the food groups”.
🥛 They are providing more options within the dairy category, including “non-dairy substitution options such as plant-based yogurts and cheeses”.

6.3 million individuals will be benefiting from these changes and we can’t thank you enough for submitting your comments and helping us urge the USDA to provide healthier, safer foods to participants.

🌎 This is a massive step in the right direction towards our overall goal of pushing dairy out of the picture permanently for human health, planetary health and food justice.

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans are released every 5 years by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). They provide advice on what to eat and drink to meet nutrient needs, promote health, and prevent disease. The DGA affects the lives of everyday Americans, especially those who need diet assistance the most! It especially impacts ethnic minorities, low income communities, and people who don’t eat like what is depicted on MyPlate. All public funded nutrition programs and many private-run nutrition programs use the DGA as their guide to provide food or plan their meals. This includes WIC, SNAP, and the NSLP, to name a few. Therefore, changing the DGA is the most upstream intervention.
