Animal-based processed meats like bacon, sausages, salami, and lunch meats may taste good to kids and be easy for parents. But behind the inviting packaging and enticing, salty flavors lurk terrifying truths and threats to your children’s health and well-being.
Don’t Feed Your Girls To Menstruate Early
Diets high in animal protein intake are linked to earlier puberty, especially in girls (Calcaterra et al., 2023). Early menstruation—typically defined as menarche (the first period) occurring before age 11, is associated with an increased risk of hormone related cancers, irregular cycles, polycystic ovary syndrome, shorter adult height, risk taking behaviors and higher risks of depression and disordered eating (Huang et al., 2021; Shope et al., 2022).
Don’t Feed Your Kids Anxiety
Kids consuming more animal-based processed foods face higher risks of depression and anxiety (Reales–Moreno et al., 2022). Plant-based diets, however, show protective mental health effects and a reduce the risk of depressive symptoms (Walsh et al., 2023).

Don’t Feed Your Kids Into Mental Issues
Kids on healthier diets show greater emotional regulation, patience, and adaptability — traits tied to long-term success (O’Neil et al., 2014). A diet that supports lower systemic inflammation (e.g. plant-rich food) correlates with lower risk of mental health disorders (van Zonneveld et al., 2024).
Don’t Feed Your Kids To Struggle In School
Children who eat more junk food have more hyperactivity, meanwhile children with healthier diets (rich in whole plant foods) show better attention spans, learning capacity, and memory (Wiles et al., 2007). A healthy diet in childhood is associated with better cognitive function (Roberts et al., 2022). Diets rich in vegetables, fruits, legumes, and whole grains contribute to sustained cognitive health. Fiber and phytonutrients from plant foods support gut health, which in turn influences the brain via the gut-brain axis (Clemente–Suárez et al., 2025). Soy, berries, greens, and nuts are brain fuel. Animal-based processed foods are not.
Don’t Feed Your Kids Into Sleeplessness
Diets high in processed, high-fat, animal-based foods are linked to sleeplessness and anxiety (Duquenne et al., 2024). Diets rich in magnesium, tryptophan, and B vitamins (found in greens, legumes, nuts, and seeds) improve sleep onset and quality (Zuraikat et al., 2022).
Don’t Feed Your Kids Into Cancer
Processed animal-based foods like bacon, sausage, and ham are in the same cancer risk group as tobacco, according to the World Health Organization (International Agency for Research on Cancer, 2015). If you wouldn’t give your kid a cigarette, why serve them salami?

Animal-based processed meat is crammed full of nasty chemicals and other junk that can damage your kids’ health and harm them for life. Fill their plates instead with whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and healthier, plant-based proteins.
